The ICF recording pathway ends for ACC and PCC portfolio candidates on 31 March 2027. Applications submitted on or before that date can still demonstrate coaching competence the established way: one recorded session for ACC, two for PCC, each with a verbatim transcript, evaluated by ICF assessors. Applications from 1 April 2027 onward cannot.
What replaces the recording is an enhanced mentor coaching requirement. An MCS-credentialed mentor coach works with you for at least three months, observes or reviews at least three of your sessions, and signs a Competency Review Form. The form, not a recording, becomes the evidence of your competence.
Why the deadline favours acting early
The deadline is not the date to aim at. ICF results take 6 to 8 weeks once an assessor is assigned. A candidate who submits in October 2026 and does not pass still has time to record again, submit again, and pass inside the window. A candidate who submits for the first time in February 2027 is making a single, unrepeatable attempt: if the result comes back Below Standard after the window closes, the route forward is a three-month mentoring engagement under the new rules.
The practical consequence: between now and the deadline, the most valuable thing you can know is whether your chosen recording would pass. Submitting a weak recording does not just cost the $150 retake fee; near the deadline it can cost the entire pathway.

By December 2026: choose and check your submission recording. This leaves a full retake cycle in hand. By January 2027: submit. Results in 6 to 8 weeks still leave the transition window open. February to March 2027: last-chance territory; submit only a recording you have independently verified against the standards, because there is no second attempt after this.
Who is unaffected
MCC candidates are unaffected: the MCC performance evaluation keeps recordings after 2027. ACC and PCC candidates on the Level 1 and Level 2 program paths are also unaffected, because their programs assess performance internally; the change applies to the portfolio path, where ICF assessors evaluate your recording directly.
