ICF Recording Pathway: What Changes in March 2027

The ICF recording pathway ends for ACC and PCC portfolio candidates on 31 March 2027. Applications submitted on or before that date can still use recordings: one recorded session for ACC, two for PCC, each with a verbatim transcript, evaluated by ICF assessors. Applications from 1 April 2027 cannot.
Recordings are replaced by an enhanced mentor coaching requirement. An MCS-credentialed mentor coach works with you for at least three months, observes or reviews at least three of your sessions, and signs a Competency Review Form. That form becomes the evidence of your competence.
Why to submit early
ICF results take 6 to 8 weeks once an assessor is assigned. If you submit in October 2026 and do not pass, you still have time to record again, resubmit and pass before the deadline. If you submit for the first time in February 2027, you get one attempt. A Below Standard result that arrives after the window closes leaves you with a three-month mentoring engagement under the new rules.
So before the deadline, it is worth knowing whether your chosen recording is likely to pass. Near the deadline, a failed recording can cost you the pathway as well as the $150 retake fee.

By December 2026: choose and check your submission recording. This leaves time for a full retake cycle. By January 2027: submit. Results in 6 to 8 weeks still arrive before the window closes. February to March 2027: there is no time for a second attempt, so only submit a recording you have checked against the standards.
Who is not affected
MCC candidates: the MCC performance evaluation keeps recordings after 2027. ACC and PCC candidates on the Level 1 and Level 2 program paths are also unaffected, because their programs assess performance internally. The change applies to the portfolio path, where ICF assessors evaluate your recording directly.
